The Process
Prep Work
To ensure the best coverage, your asphalt will be cleaned of all dirt, oil spots, moss, and any other debris prior to sealing.
Crack Filling
Freezing and thawing in the winter time will cause asphalt to crack. Most pavement that has not been sealed in a few years will have some cracks that need to be treated. Some require extensive crack filling. This is a very important step in preventing further damage. It will stop water penetration from the punishing rains. We use a material called Dura-Fill Heat Stabilized Crack Filler which is heated to a temperature where it can be poured into the exposed joint or crack. It will then cool and harden inside the crack. This is the same method used by road crews, and it will last much longer than cold-apply products that are available at home-improvement stores such as Lowe's or The Home Depot. If a customer is in between their cycle for asphalt sealing and would just like to treat their exposed cracks, we can do that for you.
Applying the Slurry Seal
Unless a customer specifies otherwise, our bid will be to include two coats. If it is a reasonably warm day and the surface gets direct sun exposure, both coats will be applied on the same day and can be driven on that night. The second coat is spread perpendicular to the first to ensure maximum coverage. We apply our product by hand, using brooms and squeegees and do not spray any material on.
Weather Requirements
Temperatures are preferred to be in the 60s, but the material can be applied when it is as low as 50°. Warmer temperatures and direct sunlight or wind will help the product dry faster and allow the surface to be driven on sooner.
